Former Liverpool star claims this Premier League star would fit into Klopp’s midfield

Steve McMahon backs James Maddison to star in Liverpool’s midfield

James Maddison was at his best at Anfield on Saturday despite Leicester’s 2-1 loss to the Reds.

The English midfielder scored the equaliser in the second half before James Milner converted a late penalty to hand us three points. The 22-year-old Leicester star has been excellent this season and has even earned a call-up to the England squad.

Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McMahon told the Express that Maddison has to make a decision on his future like Harry Maguire did.

The Liverpool

legend believed the midfielder wouldn’t remain at Leicester for long, and backed him to even get into our team (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I think Maddison has another level to go. I think there’s a top team, if it’s not Liverpool then United maybe, they’ll be in for him. He can only get better.
“Jurgen loves up and at them players, 100 per cent, non-stop work rate. He knows his full backs can create a chance, the space and can go for an overlap.
“I don’t see Maddison sitting on the bench [at a big club]. Say he comes to Liverpool, I’m not telling James Maddison to leave, but if I’m Klopp I would be looking to sign a player.
“He’s young, he’s English, he’s got a lot going for him. He changes the tempo of the game, why wouldn’t he get in Liverpool’s midfield?”

Maddison to replace one of our midfielders?

The ex-Liverpool man also spoke about our current midfielders suggesting that there is a spot in the team for Maddison.

Fabinho is someone who cannot be dropped, but McMahon didn’t believe Jordan Henderson or Naby Keita were sure–shot regular starters for the Reds.

The Leicester man could fit into most of the top sides in the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move.

The Englishman joined the Foxes just over a season ago and he has improved leaps and bounds since his Norwich days.

Leicester pulled off a masterstroke and seem to be doing extremely well under Brendan Rodgers.
