Liverpool midfielder James Milner wants his future sorted out soon, with his contract ending in the summer.
The 33-year-old has been excellent under Jurgen Klopp and was a key performer in our Champions League journey last season.
Milner is also the ultimate professional and has done well in several positions under the German.
The midfielder could speak with foreign clubs in the January window but the Liverpool Echo claims that talks have been held between the club and Milner’s representatives.
The veteran was asked if there was any progress in a new deal and the Englishman responded with a smile (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Who knows, you know?
“There have been talks so hopefully it gets resolved sooner rather than later. But at this moment I will just keep playing football as well as I can.”
Even if the Englishman doesn’t start every game for us, his experience is a huge bonus.
The 33-year-old can cover several positions in the side and even spent one season as our first-choice left-back.
Replacing Milner would be a tough ask and the Reds need to do everything to keep him in the side. The Englishman is still one of the most consistent performers under Klopp and hasn’t allowed age to catch up to him yet.
Hopefully, we can agree on a new deal with the former Leeds United star and keep him till he retires.
