Mohamed Salah is now the most prolific scorer in Liverpool history

Mohamed Salah has been said to have a rather underwhelming season of late. This belief belies the fact that the striker has 18 goals and eight assists for the club in 31 appearances.

Salah continues to be the club’s top scorer in his third season on Merseyside, yet he has become a victim of his own standards and the fans believe he can do much more.

The Egyptian now has three goals and one assist from his last two matches. He scored twice against Southampton last Saturday to get within touching distance of the Premier League golden boot.

Rather inconspicuously though, Salah looks to have beaten an incredible Anfield scoring record as pointed out by Liverpool historian Carl Clemente. His brace against Southampton improved the Egyptian’s Liverpool goal tally to 89 goals in 137 appearances.

This improves Salah’s goal tally to 0.65 goals per game. It eclipses the record of 0.64 goals per game held by former striker Gordon Hodgson. Hodgson represented Liverpool from 1925-1936 and scored 241 goals in 378 appearances.

The Egyptian may not be the best striker in the club’s history. He can surely enter his name into the annals of club history as one of the most prolific.
