Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has not enjoyed the best of seasons. The right-back injured his ACL in the pre-season clash against Borussia Dortmund, ruling him out for a number of months. (h/t Liverpool)
Signed from Southampton in 2015, Clyne quickly established himself as the first-choice right-back at the club. He went on to make 93 appearances in his first two seasons at Anfield including the League Cup final and the Europa League final in 2016.
Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, a back injury sustained prior to the 2017-18 season began a long run of misfortune. Clyne has been struggling since then and has made only 10 appearances since then. The emergence of Trent Alexander -Arnold has also played a role in keeping him out when fit.
In some good news, the defender finally looks to be back in training.
He posted a video on Instagram revealing himself to be back on the training pitch. The defender looked to be in good nick and will offer Jurgen Klopp an experienced option as cover for Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold is the undisputed right-back at the club and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. The emergence of Neco Williams could also be a hindrance for Clyne’s future at the club.
At 28, he should be playing regular football and is certainly good enough to do so. Clyne is currently in the last few months of his contract. With no extension looking to be on the cards, the Englishman will be free to leave in the summer. (h/t Express)
He now has three months to get back his sharpness and make use of every opportunity he gets.
An accomplished defender in his own right, Clyne has made 14 appearances for the English national team since making his debut in 2014.
