“We will not blame him”: Klopp absolves this Liverpool star of blame following Champions League defeat

Jurgen Klopp will not hold Adrian responsible for Atletico Madrid loss

According to The Guardian, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to put the blame on goalkeeper Adrian following the player’s error in the heartwrenching loss to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

Roberto Firmino’s goal in extra time put Liverpool ahead as the Reds looked to have capped off a fine performance with the victory they so richly deserved. However, it was not to be as Marcos Llorente pounced on Adrian’s mistake to score, completely swinging the tie in the Spanish giants’ favor.

Klopp insisted that rather than the Spaniard’s error, factors such as his side’s poor finishing and poor defending in added time contributed to their loss on the night.

“We will not blame him for a second”

Adrian’s error ruined what was until then a perfect performance

Klopp accepted that the error had a major say in the result, but kept refusing to blame the player. It was Adrian’s second high profile mistake this month following the error at Chelsea.

A bad day at the office

The reserve keeper has been forced to step in for the Reds a number of times this season and has more often than not proved his worth. Errors are bound to happen at times and it no way disparages the number of times he has done well for the club. This was something Klopp agreed on

.

“He saved us in so many moments when he played. Since he’s here, he had super performances.”

Adrian was the hero as Liverpool won the UEFA Super Cup

The German also went on to say that the player is capable of dealing with the reactions to his performance and that the club will help him in doing so if needed.

“He’s a grown man and he will deal with that. We will help him with that but I don’t think he needs it, to be honest.”

More Liverpool News

The Spaniard moved to Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer. he has played 18 times for the Reds this season and has been on the losing side just thrice. Adrian is not Alisson, yet he has performed admirably given the circumstances and has developed into a mostly dependable keeper.

His error yesterday should in no way deride his otherwise impressive season with us.
