Virgil van Dijk sends title message to Premier League rivals

According to The Mirror, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he cannot wait to silence the voices of rivals fans who have mocked the club’s league drought.

The Reds are just six points away from securing their 19th league championship – a title that has eluded the much-storied club since the 1989-90 season. The victory will also take Liverpool to within one of Manchester United’s record of 20 championships.

The league currently stands suspended due to the coronavirus. But with the Reds 25 points clear with just nine games left to play, it will be a travesty if the much-deserved win is voided.

Van Dijk is aware of the fun Liverpool’s rivals have at their expense and is keen to silence them when the Reds get their hands on the title.

“I have been aware of it because it has been such a while since we won the League.”

He admits that he is aware of the rival fans’ endless rambles on the topic and has had the first-hand experience of it since joining the club from Southampton in 2018.

Striving for success

He revealed that the players at the club are striving for success. Liverpool lost to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in 2018 only for the club to go back and win it the next season.

It is a sense of deja vu to see the Reds close to repeating the same trick in the Premier League this season. Jurgen Klopp’s team pushed City all the way last season only to lose by a point. The tables haven’t just been turned this season but rather chucked out of the room, as Liverpool find themselves an incredible 25 points in the clear.

Time to silence our gloating opponents

Van Dijk stated that people are entitled to their opinion and their criticism or taunts do not annoy him at all.

“Anyone is entitled to their opinion and the conversation about us not winning the League for so long is something I shut out – that doesn’t bother me at all.

He is focussed on his performances and is keen to give his best to the team. Although he doesn’t take much stock from the opinion of other clubs’ fans, the Dutchman reveals that it will be nice to silence them

“Other people from other clubs don’t bother us – but it’ll be nice to shut them up!”

Assuming the league restarts on April 3, Liverpool will face defending champions Manchester City at the Etihad. A victory on the night will ensure that the Reds leave Manchester with number 19 in the bag.
