According to a report from The Athletic (h/t Metro), Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward voted against the Premier League season being voided and Liverpool being denied the league title.
Liverpool are on course for their first-ever Premier League title triumph, with Jurgen Klopp’s men needing just two wins to confirm their status as champions. However, the Coronavirus pandemic has brought the season to a halt, with the league being suspended until at least the end of April.
This had cast doubt on whether the season will be completed. The chiefs of all 20 Premier League clubs met last week to decide the fate of the ongoing campaign, following which it was decided that the season will be extended ‘indefinitely’, paving the way for Liverpool to lift the title. Manchester United chief Ed Woodward backed the decision to push the season forward and see us crowned champions. The report
claims that Woodward was ‘very fair’ in his stand and wanted the current campaign to finish, even if it ran till the end of the year.It was a good gesture from the Man United chief, who decided to back the right call without letting our history and rivalry with the Red Devils affect his judgement.
It is still unclear as to when the footballing action will resume, but the Premier League’s decision to extend the campaign indefinitely means we are in line to lift our 19th league title. For now, let’s just hope the deadly pandemic blows over as soon as possible.
