Liverpool hopeful that Kirkby training base will be completed in the summer

The coronavirus pandemic has brought a number of sectors to a screeching halt. In spite of the situation, Liverpool have revealed that work on the club’s new training facility in Kirkby is still underway.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds expect the complex to be completed and open in the summer. The £50million project continues unabated and is located right next to the club’s academy.

Liverpool players have currently been given a break from the schedule with Melwood closed until further notice. With the squad going into self-isolation, individual programs were given to the players to ensure they are in the best condition possible for when the football resumes.

Work at the Kirkby site is going on normally as of last week. According to the report, Liverpool has privately indicated that the decision to cease work is not in their hands. That decision rests with contractors McLaughlin and Harvey.

A new era!

As it stands, the project continues to be on schedule. The club remains hopeful that Jurgen Klopp and his players can move into the facility in July. Klopp was insistent on gathering players of all age groups at the same site. The new 9,200 square meter center will be a facility that will house both first-team stars and the club’s academy talents.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool’s first-team will move there before the end of the current Premier League season. The original plan was for the Reds to move all age groups to the facility in time for pre-season in July.

Klopp and his first-team players were consulted on certain key decisions during the building of the base. The club has left no stone unturned in their efforts to build what they believe will be one of Europe’s finest training complexes.

The state of the art facility comprises of two gyms, a full-size sports hall, pool, and a hydrotherapy complex. It also includes a specialist sports rehabilitation suites for injured players.

Open-plan rooms have been designed for the gyms to allow players to recover from injury to see the training pitches. This has been done as a source of motivation in the recovery process.
