Liverpool will be awarded the Premier League title even if the 2019-20 season is not completed, claims reputed journalist Duncan Castles. (h/t Express)
Liverpool have had a memorable 2019-20 campaign. The Reds are comfortably seated at the top of the Premier League table with a 25-point lead over Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp’s men needed just two more wins to be crowned champions when the season was suspended due to coronavirus.
Ever since, there have been plenty of speculations about whether the season will resume or not. There have been differing views from all quarters on the subject of Liverpool being awarded the title if footballing action does not return.
With the situation across the globe worsening day by day, there are no guarantees that the season resumes. (h/t Express)
In such a scenario, Liverpool will be awarded the Premier League title, reckons Duncan Castles. Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), he said:
“My expectation is they will be awarded the title and I think it’s correct that they are given the title.”
However, Castles did add that if the season is cancelled and Klopp’s men are awarded the title, there will always be question marks despite the Reds being deserved winners.
Should Liverpool be awarded the Premier League title, it will bring an end to our thirty-year wait for a top-flight title. It will also take us to within one of Manchester United’s record tally of 20 league titles. For now though, football should take a backseat as the world battles this deadly pandemic.
