“My agent has not spoken”: La Liga star reveals he has received no offer from Liverpool

Sevilla ace Diego Carlos denies being offered Liverpool contract

According to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo (h/t Daily Mail), Sevilla defender Diego Carlos has dismissed reports of having received an offer to join the European champions Liverpool this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the player and had identified him as the perfect replacement for Dejan Lovren. The Reds were willing to sanction the £64million required to activate the player’s release clause.

The player has now personally put any speculation to rest by revealing that he has not been told of such a scenario.

“So far, my agent has not spoken to me about those situations.”

Diego Carlos is happy at Sevilla

Carlos revealed that he has given instructions to his agent to not come to him unless there is something concrete. He is keen to maintain his focus on Sevilla and not worry about the happenings at other clubs.

“I don’t want those things to cause me a distraction.”

The Brazilian defender joined Sevilla in the summer from Nantes for £13.5million and has made 31 appearances for the club this season, scoring 2 goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

A mainstay in the Sevilla defence, the Spanish side are third in La Liga with the fifth-best defensive record. Carlos has contributed to it with a series of fine performances that have seen him grab the attention of Real Madrid and Barcelona apart from us.

The 27-year-old went on to add that he is happy at Sevilla. His family is settled in the city and he couldn’t ask for more. He did leave a string hanging by claiming that he will only leave the club to join another team who are much bigger.

“If I ever leave Sevilla, it would be to go to a much bigger club, because Sevilla is already great.”

Liverpool clearly are a much bigger club when compared to Sevilla. Under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds’ stock looks to be on the up. The Reds are currently on the verge of their elusive 19th league title as they look to build upon last season’s European crown.

It is true that Liverpool will need a replacement if Lovren is sold. It remains to be seen if the Reds will sanction such a huge outlay to replace who is at best the club’s third-best centre-back.
