Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella has revealed that the Reds are likely to return to training at Melwood in the middle of May (h/t Express).
The Premier League has been suspended since March and team training has been cancelled, with the entire UK in lockdown. Players have been training and keeping fit at home, as the wait continues for an update on the resumption of the league.
The Premier League met with all stakeholders on Friday and reiterated their intention to complete the season but there was no update as to when football will return. However, a report from Sky Sports
did claim that a possible restart is being eyed from June 8.And now, Chirivella’s statements seem to be corroborating such a scenario with the Liverpool midfielder revealing that the players have been asked to return to training at Melwood in mid-May (h/t Express).
“We have been told that we will be training separately until the middle of May. Then three or four weeks training with the group and if we can, we could play in June. They must take it step by step because until you have a date, you see it far away.”
This could be good news for Liverpool, as the wait for our first league title in 30 years nears an end.
Prior to the league getting suspended, Liverpool were in scintillating form. Our team has opened up a 25-point lead at the top of the table and need just two victories to lift the title. As for now, the wait continues.
