Jurgen Klopp contacts father of Kylian Mbappe over Liverpool transfer

According to the French publication Le10Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has called up the father of Kylian Mbappe to chat about his future.

Mbappe is one of the most sought-after players in world football and aged just 21, has the world at his feet. The Reds have continued to be linked to the player with Klopp a keen admirer.

, Liverpool have stepped up efforts to sign the player, with Klopp personally enquiring about the possibility of eking out a deal.

Liverpool are in the market for a striker in case star winger Sadio Mane departs to Real Madrid. A move for Mbappe will not be cheap, with Liverpool needed to break the world record fee paid for a player.

That record is held by Mbappe’s PSG teammate Neymar. The Brazilian moved to the Parc des Princes for a whopping £198million in 2017.

Although a figure of around £250million has been quoted, Mbappe could move for much lower owing to the financial constraints imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

It is a testament to Klopp’s work at Anfield that players of Mbappe’s calibre see the Reds more as a destination rather than as a stepping stone. The German boss had earlier admitted that French players were too expensive. Regarding Mbappe, he looks to have got that right.
