Nat Phillips the subject of interest from a host of clubs including Bristol

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are set to offload highly-rated English centre-half Nat Phillips, with Championship side Bristol City touted to be among a host of clubs interested in his signature.

The 23-year-old recently returned from a loan spell at VfB Stuttgart. And the Reds are suggested to be considering a multitude of loan and permanent offers for the promising Englishman. (h/t The Athletic)

The youngster featured in both of the Reds’ recent pre-season friendlies. But, he was unsurprisingly omitted from the matchday squad for the Community Shield fixture against Arsenal.

Phillips has reportedly earned massive plaudits since returning to Melwood earlier on, after playing out a rather successful loan spell at the Bundesliga outfit.

The 23-year-old was a graduate of the Bolton Wanderers academy. He was scouted and picked up by our youth setup back in the summer of 2016. He is yet to make his league debut for Liverpool, having represented at the PL 2 level for three years running.

Phillips’ only first-team appearance at Liverpool came against Everton in the FA Cup in January earlier this year, when he was briefly recalled before being sent back to Stuttgart. The loan spell would’ve certainly come as an educational experience for the young defender.

Standing at over 1.9m tall, Phillips offers an excellent physical presence in the defensive third. In addition, he’s more than capable of producing the goods in an attacking sense as well.

Possessing a dangerous presence in the box during attacking set-pieces, the Englishman could be an excellent player for us in the long-run, if he isn’t sold on a permanent basis.

With Phillips’ contract set to expire next summer, it perhaps doesn’t come as a surprise that Liverpool are trying to ship him out. Whether or not he’s sent out on loan and offered a new Merseyside contract remains to be seen. But one thing that’s for certain is that the likes of Bristol City would be lucky to get him.
