Roberto Calenda – an agent of Victor Osimhen, has clarified while speaking to Radio Marte (h/t Goal.com) that Liverpool and Tottenham battled Napoli until the end in the race for the signature of highly-rated striker Victor Osimhen. The report by Goal.com has further added that his five-year deal with Napoli could be worth up to €80m.
Calenda went on to suggest that even Barcelona were considering moving for his client at one point as a potential replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez. Despite the best efforts of some of the biggest teams in the continent, some sheer determination from the Naples-based club ended up being crowned the unlikely winners to this intense race.
The Nigerian striker has been the talk of the town around Europe for a while now. And it hasn’t come as too much of a surprise that we were in for his services as well. Arguably among the best finishers in the Ligue 1 last season, Osimhen’s exploits in front of goal have been turning heads left and right for some time now too.
The youngster is capable of dropping into midfield and linking up play just as well as he’s able to hold the ball up and bring the others players in the game. Despite all this though, the attribute that Osimhen boasts that would’ve been useful to Liverpool were his sensational finishing ability.
The struggles of having Divock Origi as the only alternate striking options has hurt us in the past. And Osimhen’s signing would’ve put an end to those woes.
At 21, Osimhen has the potential to grow into an absolute world-beater. Had he allowed Jürgen Klopp the opportunity to develop him, the youngster could’ve reached a world-class level a lot quicker than he will now.
