Manchester United contact Liverpool target Thiago’s advisor

Manchester United are said to be attempting to hijack the move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara from right under the noses of Liverpool. The report by German publication Bild, as translated by the Daily Mail, suggests that United have made contact with the Spaniard’s adviser, as they look to beat us to his signature in the coming weeks.

Although it has been clarified that the Red Devils are yet to make an official offer for the midfielder, the sheer fact that they’ve entered the race must be considered as a concern.

Despite the almost imminent acquisition of Ajax midfielder Donny Van De Beek, Manchester United are seemingly going after the Spanish international this summer as well. (h/t Daily Mail)

The Bavarian giants have set a £29m price tag on the 29-year-old. But neither us, nor United, have met that valuation yet. Bayern Munich though, have resigned to the fact that their prized midfielder is hoping for a change of scenery this summer. (h/t Daily Mail)

The former Barcelona man has been a regular in the Bundesliga club’s first-team picture for over seven seasons now – a period during which he has notched up over 200 appearances. With 31 goals and 37 assists to show for his efforts as well, signing him would be quite the coup by the Reds. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Going into the next season with the same squad as last time out could end up having dire results, as the teams around us have all used the summer window so far to strengthen their squads considerably.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been active in the transfer market, with even Tottenham getting in on the act recently.

Thiago has the quality required to improve any squad in the world, and whichever team ends up getting him, should consider themselves extremely fortunate. Landing him, while beating United would be a doubly sweet victory.
