Speaking to Telefoot (h/t Mirror), Lille president Gerard Lopez has confirmed that midfielder Boubakary Soumare, who has been linked with Liverpool, can leave the club this summer.
The midfielder has repeatedly been on the radar of all the top club in Europe for a while now, with his displays for the Ligue 1 side capturing the imaginations of viewers all over the continent. It has further been claimed in the report
that we were actually in negotiations with Soumare back in March. (h/t Mirror)Apart from Liverpoo, the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the midfielder in the past. The interest is said to not be limited to the Premier League either, with the names of mammoth clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid also being tossed around in the equation. (h/t Mirror)
And now Lopez has confirmed that the midfielder will be allowed to leave this summer. (h/t Mirror)
“He will undoubtedly leave the club, the door is open. We have concrete offers. We will talk in the coming days.”
Liverpool’s acquisition of Naby Keita was expected to be a game-changer for the midfield. But it’s safe to say that things haven’t gone quite to plan on that front.
The dependence on ageing players like James Milner needs to stop, and Soumare would certainly add a breath of fresh air to Jurgen Klopp’s oster. The Lille president has also confirmed that various bids have come in for the Frenchman’s services, and that he could leave the club in the summer if he wants to.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side have been one of the most inactive top-six team in the transfer market this season. The shrewd acquisition of Greek full-back Kostas Tsimikas remains the only business that the reigning champions have conducted so far.
With the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City flexing their financial muscles in the transfer market, it could be about time we enter the race as well.
