Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior was speaking to TNT Sports (h/t Metro) when he mentioned that he wants to stay at Real Madrid ‘forever’ as he continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Brazilian was signed for a massive €46million fee back in the summer of 2017 from Flamengo. That was the record transfer fee paid for a player under the age of 19.
But since then, he has largely failed to live up to expectations. He is just 20 and still has a lot of time ahead of him before the jury is out on his Madrid career.
In fact, his current contract is a long-term one which runs out in the summer of 2025. Nevertheless, he has been linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who wants to refresh his attack.
Moreover, the report mentions that he could either be used as a makeweight in a deal to bring PSG winger Kylian Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu or be sent out on loan in order for him to get some more playing time.
Vinicius has quashed these talks and stated that his heart very much lies in Real Madrid. He mentioned that he is still young and will only improve in the future.
“No. I’m always focused on wanting to be at Real Madrid… I’m 20 years old and it seems as though I’ve been playing for many years but I’m only at the beginning of my career. I’m learning a lot from the players that are here, those that play in my position. I want to stay at Real Madrid forever.”
For a Liverpool fan, that is not the best news. But with a reported release clause of £592.5million, signing him was never going to be the easiest task in the world.
