Bundesliga giants give verdict on signing soon-to-be Liverpool free agent in the summer

Transfer News: Bayern Munich go after Florian Neuhaus as they reject chance to sign Georginio Wijnaldum

A report by German outlet Abendzeitung (h/t Irish Mirror) mentions that Bayern Munich is not a potential summer destination for Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutch midfielder is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a number of clubs. However, Bayern have retracted their name from the transfer race as Wijnaldum enters the last few months of his Liverpool contract.

The report states that the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder was offered to Bayern. But they ruled out a transfer move because they did not want to meet the Dutchman’s wage demands.

Barcelona are one club who have been consistently linked with Wijnaldum over the course of this season. The Catalan giants remain favourites to sign him despite him attracting interest from other European clubs as well. (h/t Irish Mirror)

On his way out

Wijnaldum will be a free agent in the summer if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield. In a season full of injuries, the 30-year-old is one player who has not let Jurgen Klopp down.

He signed for the club back in the summer of 2016 from Newcastle United and has since become a staple in our midfield. It would be a shame to see him go, that too on a free transfer.

But on paper, Klopp isn’t short of options in midfield. Thiago Alcantara is a superstar who would be one of the first names on the team sheet.

And the Reds also possibly have Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Curtis Jones to fit into a midfield-three next season.

More Liverpool News:

But the industry and fitness of Wijnaldum can hardly be matched. Signing a midfielder in the summer can ease some pressure off Klopp because after all, Keita and Ox’s injury records and Milner’s age could see Klopp face a shortage in midfield next season.
