According to Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester City have won the transfer race for signing Fluminense starlet, Kayky, who was also eyed by Liverpool.
The 17-year-old is likened to Brazil and PSG superstar, Neymar, and will join City’s youth set-up next season. City are believed to pay an initial £8.5million fee which can rise up to £15million with add-ons.
Fluminense will also receive a share of the transfer fee if the Cityzens decide to offload the forward in the future. This news comes as a blow for the Reds, as the report
mentions that Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk were amongst the clubs interested in him.The youngster has already scored two goals in 6 appearances for the senior team in the State Championship this season. He will link up with his new club next season and would have to show his mettle in the youth academy before any chance to be in the senior City team.
At the rate being quoted above, it does not seem like a bad signing considering the risk is not very high. The Reds could have had a very highly-rated youngster in their ranks for a reasonable fee.
Mohamed Salah is in sensational form but his future remains up in the air, as it does with any superstar performing at such a high level.
Sadio Mane’s form this season has been very inconsistent and Xherdan Shaqiri doesn’t seem like he’s trusted a lot by Jurgen Klopp. In such a situation, the Reds would be wise to think about the future. Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott are two young players who can cement their starting positions in the future.
But Kayky would have surely boosted our future prospects of having an elite attacking line even more. Life after Jurgen Klopp would not be easy and we can only hope there is a strong foundation of youngsters at the club by the time the German departs for greener pastures.
