Transfer News: Memphis Depay spotted in Spain amid Liverpool links

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Memphis Depay was spotted house-hunting Spain amid transfer links with Liverpool.

The Lyon forward has been linked with FC Barcelona and the Reds recently. And while this comes as good news for the Spanish side, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds would certainly see this as a blow.

The Dutch attacker is coming to the end of his stay at the Ligue 1 side and is set to leave them at the end of this season. After a poor spell at Manchester United, he left for France in 2017. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

And he has found his form again. This season, the 27-year-old has 10 goals and 19 assists in all competitions for the French outfit. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Off to sunny Spain

With the Catalan side linked to him as home, this news of him looking for a new house in Spain surely indicates that the former PSV Eindhoven man is preferring a move to Barcelona, and if not them, then a Spanish side.

Klopp has a severe shortage of No.9s at his club. Roberto Firmino is woefully misfiring at the moment and Sadio Mane is no longer the threat he was last season.

Even Mohamed Salah’s finishing lets him down at times despite him scoring at a decent rate this campaign. The bench makes for grim reading, with Divock Origi not looking like someone the German can slot into the starting XI regularly.

Diogo Jota was a great signing last summer in this regard. The Portuguese attacker can cover multiple positions in the attack and Depay has similar versatility.

His United allegiances aside, he would be a pretty smart signing for any club, be it Liverpool or anyone else.
