Struggling £40m Liverpool midfield star told to complete transfer to PL rivals

Transfer News: Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suggested Leicester City and West Ham United moves

Speaking to BettingOdds.com (h/t Leicestershire Live) in an interview, John Barnes suggested that Liverpool midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, should look to seal a move to Leicester City or West Ham United in the summer.

Liverpool agreed on a deal with Arsenal to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017 for a £40m fee. While he had a good start to life at Liverpool, injuries restricted his game-time.

The Englishman made just two starts in the Premier League this season after an injury hampered his start to the campaign. Even when he was available for selection, Klopp did not pick him regularly in the starting XI.

John Barnes thinks a transfer to Leicester City or West Ham United would suit Liverpool midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

And Liverpool legend, John Barnes, thinks that a move to Leicester City or West Ham United would be suited for the 27-year-old. However, he favoured the Foxes due to them being more stable than the Hammers.

“I think Leicester or West Ham. Leicester would probably be a bit better suited because they’re more stable than West Ham as they know that they will be in the top seven most seasons, which isn’t the case for West Ham. However, if he wanted to go back down south then I think West Ham would be a good move for Alex, too.”

It remains to be seen what stance the Reds take regarding the sale of another midfielder from their club. Georginio Wijnaldum has already sealed a move to PSG after not renewing his Anfield contract.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain follows, and the Reds fail to sign a replacement for him in the summer transfer window, then Jurgen Klopp could find himself in a tough situation if injuries or fatigue ends up affecting his squad.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, despite his struggles, has moments of magic in him that can turn the game in his side’s favour. Take for example his strikes against Manchester City in his debut season for Liverpool in the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League.

If he remains at Liverpool and does not suffer another injury setback, Klopp could have a very able midfielder at his disposal as his side vies for trophies on four fronts.
