The Athletic (h/t Express) has shed some light on the likelihood of Liverpool signing attacking transfer targets Ismaila Sarr or Jarrod Bowen from Watford and West Ham, respectively.
The report suggests that the Reds are unlikely to sign a new attacker. However, it adds that stance could change if Divock Origi or Xherdan Shaqiri depart from Anfield in the coming weeks.
This decision comes from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s satisfaction with his current options. The report suggests that the German tactician sees Takumi Minamino, Harvey Elliot and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as viable backup options in attack at the moment.
Liverpool have started their 2021/22 Premier League campaign with a blast. The Reds registered a comfortable 3-0 victory away to Norwich City.
Diogo Jota, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino were on target. Sadio Mane could not get his name on the score sheet. However, the Senegalese did show signs of improvements from last season.
Looking at the first game, one would think that adding another attacker to the current crop would not be a priority. Having said that, there could still be an argument for Liverpool to go after either Sarr or Bowen.
Both, Salah and Mane are set to miss January fixtures due to AFCON. The month could prove to be the deciding factor for Liverpool’s title chances. To add to that, the club would eventually need to replace them, with both approaching their 30’s.
Sarr and Bowen both made a bright start to the new season. Sarr,23, scored a goal for Watford in their Premier League win over Aston Villa. On the other hand, Jarrod Bowen had a brilliant performance in West Ham’s win over Newcastle United.
As things stand, however, a move to Liverpool might not be on the horizon for either, at least in the ongoing transfer window.
