A report by Daily Mail (h/t Daily Record) mentions that Liverpool winger, Ben Woodburn, has agreed on a deal to join Hearts on a short-term loan.
The temporary spell would last until January, after which the 21-year-old would be back at the AXA Training Centre. Woodburn, who made his full Reds debut at 17, is also the youngest goal-scorer in the club’s history.
The Welshman’s goal came against Leeds United in a League Cup quarter-final. With the game tied at 0-0, Woodburn came on to replace Kevin Stewart and struck shortly after. At 17 years and 45 days, he eclipsed Michael Owen’s record as the youngest
LFC goal-scorer.Hearts of Midlothian F.C. play in the Scottish first-division and would logically offer a better prospect for Woodburn when it comes to getting first-team minutes.
They have already won their first two league games of the new season and only trail Aberdeen and Hibernian on goal difference in the third spot. As for Woodburn, that goal against Leeds has been the highlight of his Liverpool career so far.
Things have drastically slowed down since then and he is nowhere near the first-team picture right now. Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane, and Harvey Elliott are the club’s preferred options down the wings.
A move away from Anfield seems like the best possible option for both parties right now. One peculiar thing about any move for Woodburn would be his contract situation at the club.
The full Wales international is in the last 12 months of his Anfield deal. If he joins Hearts on loan and returns in January, Liverpool risk losing him on a free transfer next year. And hence, it would be wise to sort that out before sending the youngster to Scotland.
