Report: 21-year-old Liverpool target ‘free to leave’ Bundesliga side for £64m in January

Transfer News: Liverpool could sign Erling Haaland for bargain fee in January

According to Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool transfer target, Erling Haaland, would be ‘free to leave’ Borussia Dortmund in January.

The Norwegian is believed to have his £64million release clause become active that month, and could depart the German side for a cut-price fee.

While the aforementioned value is no peanuts to pay, it is still considerably lower than the apparent £150million valuation placed on the player’s head this summer. Also, the release clause may become active sooner than expected.

It was widely thought that Haaland’s release clause becomes active in June 2022. But according to the report from Marca (h/t Liverpool Echo), it may well come into play in January 2022.

Speaking to BILD (h/t Liverpool Echo) last week, Jurgen Klopp addressed Haaland’s links with Liverpool. The former Borussia Dortmund manager joked that he doesn’t have the details to contact the striker for a move.

“Sooner or later he will be in discussion with large clubs. I don’t know if that will be the case next year, but then Dortmund will have to counter it…. I don’t have his number! He’s just a very interesting player. I really like the energy he brings to the pitch.”

Haaland would be a top signing for Liverpool. The ex-RB Salzburg hitman has the ability to win games all on his own with his goals.

With Roberto Firmino not in the best goal-scoring touch last season, having a number 9 as potent as Haaland may well be what Liverpool needs to continue their success in the near future.

But as with any transfer relating to a superstar, it won’t be an easy battle. Haaland would not go unnoticed because of his performances and it remains to be seen if any such deal would be financially viable for the Reds.
