“Best fans”: 29-year-old Liverpool star underlines the importance of supporters for the team

Sadio Mane understands the role Liverpool fans can play in winning titles this season

Speaking to the official club media, Sadio Mane talked about the role that fans can play in helping Liverpool achieve success this season.

The Reds were in flying form in the 2019/20 Premier League season up until the point where the Covid-19 pandemic put things on a hold. After that, fans were either prohibited in stadiums or allowed in a limited capacity for a long period of time.

The start of this season has seen fans return in full capacity in the Premier League. Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Burnley and the disappointing 1-1 draw against Chelsea were played out in front of a capacity crowd at Anfield.

And Mane thinks that fans can make the difference when it comes to winning trophies this season. He highlighted their importance after expressing his gratitude for being a Liverpool player.

Mane praises fans

“Having our fans back in the stadium is an extra motivation because, like I have always said, the Liverpool fans are the best fans in the world. It was fantastic to play in front of a full Anfield again. Having them back can be massive for us and they can play a huge part in our success.”

It is undeniable that Liverpool fans can almost become the 12th man for the team at times. It was visible against Borussia Dortmund in a 4-3 Europa League win and their impact was there for all to see when the Reds overturned a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona at Anfield.

And it is important for a team like the Reds, whose fans have come to define the culture and legacy of the club, to have the backing of their supporters each game. Mane would also hope to pick up the pace this season on an individual level.

He wasn’t in the best form during the last campaign but has already netted once this season for the Reds – against Burnley – and found the net for Senegal during their World Cup qualifiers game against Togo earlier this week.
