Liverpool handed blow after Real Madrid reach agreement with Dortmund for Erling Haaland
According to Diario Madridista (h/t Express), Liverpool and Manchester United have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Real Madrid are said to have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with the German club for the player’s transfer next summer.
Erling Haaland had been linked with major European clubs throughout the summer transfer window. However, Dortmund stood firm on their stance and kept the Norwegian striker beyond deadline day. Haaland since making his move the German club has burst into form and is arguably amongst the best striker in the world.
Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester United were amongst the major European clubs linked with the Dortmund striker. However, as per the recent revelation, Real Madrid are now leading the race to sign Haaland next summer after reaching a verbal agreement with the club.
And Diario Madridista (h/t Express) suggest that PSG, Manchester City, Liverpool & Manchester United all tried to sign Haaland this summer window. But both player and the club turn down the proposal as the player is close to signing Real Madrid next summer.
The 21-year old Norwegian scored 41 goals in 41 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions last season. Despite the player’s stellar goal-scoring form, the German side has failed to win any major title during his time at the club. And with a few European giants knocking on his door, the player could see his future with a new club next summer.

Liverpool failed to sign any major player this summer apart from Ibrahima Konate. While the English clubs were hopeful to enter the race next summer, Real Madrid have potentially closed the doors for the Premier League club as they are believed to have Haaland’s word that the player will sign for them.
Liverpool should now look to assess more options next summer with Real Madrid closing in on Erling Haaland. However, all the focus for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool right now is set on Sunday’s clash against Leeds United in the Premier League as the Reds continue their march towards to the Premier League title.
