Team News: Several first-team stars sidelined vs Norwich due to injury issues

Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders gives injury updates on several players ahead of Norwich City clash

According to assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders (h/t Liverpoolfc.com), Liverpool will be missing several key players against Norwich City in the Carabao Cup due to injury issues as the season starts to gather some pace.

The Reds are no strangers to injury issues. They had to deal with many important players being injured last season including the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson.

Thiago Alcantara picked up a calf injury in their fixture against Crystal Palace over the weekend. The management is waiting for his scan results

but the playmaker will be unavailable for the Carabao Cup tie against Norwich. He will also be out for the PL fixture against Brentford.

Roberto Firmino missed the last 3 games for Liverpool due to a hamstring injury. The Brazilian forward will start training with the team again this week which is good news for Jurgen Klopp. Despite this update, the striker will be missing the midweek game against Norwich and is highly unlikely to play against Brentford.

Trent Alexander Arnold was absent from the team against their Crystal Palace victory due to illness. He is another star who is set to miss out on the fixture against the Canaries in midweek, according to Lijnders.

“That’s Trent, there are no symptoms – no COVID symptoms. We test regardless. He should be fine in a few days but Norwich comes too early. Then we have Bobby, who will do parts of team training but also not ready. But progressing well. And Neco is progressing well as well. [For him] tomorrow also comes too early.”

The Reds had to suffer another shock as they saw their youngster Harvey Elliot suffer a shock injury against Leeds. The teenager will be out of contention for a long time as the club will closely monitor his path to recovery.
