Liverpool ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign Karim Adeyemi

Transfer News: Liverpool competing with Barcelona for Karim Adeyemi

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are leading the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg striker, Karim Adeyemi.

The 19-year-old forward recently made his bow for the German national team during the recent international break. It comes as no surprise given his recent form for Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The Reds are not the only team after Adeyemi. Spanish giants Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on his progress as they continue to rebuild. Liverpool however appear to hold the edge in the race to land the young German.

According to the report, promising youngster Harvey Elliott’s injury against Leeds United last weekend could spur Liverpool to intensify their interest in Adeyemi. Jurgen Klopp could definitely do with another attacker in his ranks.

Adeyemi to LFC?

Divock Origi has evidently lost the manager’s trust as he is failing to get minutes despite Roberto Firmino’s recent unavailability. The Merseysiders have one of the best frontlines in the world, but lack of their strength in depth is an Achilles heel.

Apart from Firmino and Diogo Jota, Liverpool lacks a credible threat who can function as a prolific number nine. The Brazilian will turn 30 next month and the Reds are best advised to bring in a replacement sooner rather than later.

Whether the German could even go on to become the former Hoffenheim striker’s successor at Anfield remains to be seen.

Klopp could be without quality options if one of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, or Jota become unavailable. Hence moving for Adeyemi could be more of a necessity rather than a luxury.

The Reds face a difficult start to 2022 when the AFCON is scheduled to take place. With both Mane and Salah potentially off to represent Senegal and Egypt respectively, Klopp’s attack will lose a large chunk of their bite.

Moving for Adeyemi in January will not just land them a promising player who can perform off the bat, but also beat the rush before the German makes it big.
