According to teamTalk (h/t Mirror), Liverpool could try and sign 24-year-old Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer.
The reds have one of the most feared attacking lineups in Europe. They have played an instrumental part in the Merseysider’s success over the last few years in England and Europe. That being said the trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane may need replacing at the same time due to the similarity in their age.
The Liverpool forwards haven’t shown major signs of slowing down but the demands of the modern footballing schedule can take their toll on even the best of players. Ousmane Dembele made a stellar move to Barcelona but the youngster failed to cement a regular place in the first team in a stint that has been marred with injuries.
The former Borussia Dortmund player could be a great option for Jurgen Klopp to make an impact in that forward line and also provide a more stable future for the 2019 UEFA Champions League winners in attack.
It is thought that the Frenchman has been asked to take a wage cut from his normal £200,000-a-week salary, which hasn’t gone down well so far. The 24-year-old could also help out the German manager with add more attacking impetus to this team.
Fabrizio Romano also gave his views on the Dembele saga last summer (h/t Mirror):
“Jurgen Klopp was convinced he could sign Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona on loan with a buy option.”There was talks between Barcelona and Liverpool but the player said the same as he said to Manchester United ‘I want to stay, I don’t want to move’.”
Despite these comments, the situation could be different this time around with Barcelona’s financial troubles and the manner in which it is being run. This acquisition could help in squad rotation for the big competitions to preserve fitness and provide some much-needed rest for its key players. The Premier League side could get the Barcelona forward on a free transfer if things work out in their favour.
The Merseysiders would be looking to add some players and make a greater impact in the next few transfer windows to secure the immediate and long-term future of the club. That being said, the youngster’s past record of injuries isn’t a secret could be a drawback to this potential deal.
