According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has been ruled out of action for at least a month after picking up a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid.
The Brazilian striker has been in good nick this season and his absence is yet another blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side. With six goals and one assist in 11 games, he has contributed much to the club’s resurgence this season.
Firmino now looks set to miss games against West Ham United, Arsenal, Porto, Southampton, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the next four weeks.
Speaking ahead of the game against the Hammers, Klopp confirmed that Firmino is injured in a bad way. Given the role the Brazilian plays in the Liverpool setup, his manager’s disappointment was palatable.
“Bobby (Firmino) is not good news with a serious hamstring injury, really unfortunate.”
Klopp went on to add that the 30-year-old striker is a quick healer but now faces at least four weeks out of action. Hopefully, he will return to action before the games come thick and fast in December.
“Don’t know exactly but more than 4 weeks… a serious injury. Let’s see, Bobby is a quick healer.”
Firmino is not the only player who has now been ruled for the trip to the London Stadium. Klopp confirmed that both Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones are also not available for the game.
The German manager remains hopeful that both players will return to action after the international break next week. Hopefully, that is the case.
It has been another frustrating season for Liverpool in terms of injuries. Thankfully Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho returned to action against Atletico Madrid and should be in contention this weekend.
As for the front line, Diogo Jota continues to impress and should step in for Firmino. As they often do, Liverpool can now rally around adversity to reach greater heights.
