According to the figures predicted by Swiss Ramble (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have earned the joint highest amount of prize money from this season’s Champions League so far, with the Reds set to take their earnings past £85m for this season should they defeat Benfica in the quarter-finals.
The Reds have been on a roll this season, challenging for all four trophies. They have already secured the Carabao Cup and have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup. They have also reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and are challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title.
Success on the field will be backed up with success off the field, especially in terms of prize money. The Champions League is the most prestigious of them all and Liverpool have received the joint-most earnings along with Bayern Munich until now having won six out of six in the group stage and also getting past the round of 16.
Should the Reds get past Benfica and into the semi-final then they would be on course to sail past the £85m mark and close in on £100m. This is not a new figure for Liverpool who breached this back in 2019 when they won the Champions League.
On the quest for an unprecedented quadruple, Liverpool are having one of their best seasons. Despite having one trophy secured, the Reds will have to be on top of their game to do the unthinkable.
They have Manchester City as the hurdle in two of these three competitions and the Pep Guardiola led team are no easy opponents. If they get past Benfica in the Champions League, they have Chelsea or Real Madrid to face up next.
None of these clashes are easy for the Reds but as we have seen over and again with Jurgen Klopp, his team is always ready. If anything, his team will be relishing the pressure and wanting to thrive in it.
Liverpool have a lot at stake till the end of the season. The prize money is an added incentive for the club administration. It remains to be seen how Klopp handles his hurdles and guides his team to more than one trophy.
