Transfer News: Mohamed Salah on the brink of agreeing on new Liverpool contract

According to the Mirror, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is on the verge of agreeing on a new deal with the club that would effectively see him play out the best years of his remaining playing career at Anfield.

The Egyptian winger joined the Merseyside outfit in 2017 from AS Roma, despite only spending one full season with the Italian side as their own player. He had previously played for the Serie A side on loan, when he made a temporary switch to the Stadio Olimpico while at Chelsea.

Arguably one of the best players not only at Liverpool but also in the Premier League, fans will be delighted to hear about the fact that he is close to coming to an agreement with the Reds over a new deal. His current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2023- which means that he would be open to agreeing on a pre-contract with foreign teams from January.

The star had earlier rejected a bumper contract that would have seen him earning £400,000-a-week. With his current contract expiring next year and the forward rejecting a fresh offer, clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona were circling around for the player.

Salah has change of heart

The 29-year-old is finally set to stay at Anfield and continue his trophy-laden career with the Reds, after enjoying personal and collective success with Liverpool. Given that he is now recognised as one of the world’s top players, Salah was expecting the Merseyside club to pay him a salary that matched his status.

However, the Egypt international is said to have a change of heart, and is now on the verge of agreeing on a new deal that sees him compromise on his wage demands and also tie him down with his current side for three more years, with an option of an additional 12 months.

Arguably in the prime of his career, Salah has already added a Carabao Cup to his Liverpool trophy cabinet this season. If all goes well by the summer, he could be one of the rare players in England to finish the campaign by winning the quadruple, with the winners of the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League yet to be decided.

Salah saw his team briefly sit on top of the PL table after beating Watford 2-0 at home last night, but now sit one point behind defending champions Manchester City. With the next domestic action for the club being a potential title-deciding clash at the Etihad Stadium, next weekend’s game will need Salah to bring his best.

More Liverpool News

He has already proven that he is a world-class player, and the news about him having a change of heart after receiving all the love and affection from Merseyside is heartwarming. Already a fan favourite, this is sure to increase the bond between the supporters and the star.

The Egyptian King looks set to stay at Anfield for a few more years, and if he continues to help the club win trophies and score a mind-boggling number of goals each season, then he could possibly go down as the best forward to have graced the halls of the English giants.
