Transfer News: Sadio Mane set for a new contract from Liverpool after FA Cup heroics vs Manchester City

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Sadio Mane is set to be offered a new contract by Liverpool. The Senegalese is in fine form this season and the club could reward him with a new deal in the near future.

It has been a brilliant 2022 so far for Mane. He led his country to their first-ever AFCON title by beating Mohamed Salah’s Egypt in the final- a tournament where he netted three goals alongside providing two assists.

In the Premier League, the former Southampton forward has 6 goals in 8 starts. And just yesterday, he scored two superb goals against Manchester City to lead Liverpool to the FA Cup final against either Chelsea or Crystal Palace at Wembley in May.

Many would argue that Mane was one of the most important signings made by Jurgen Klopp. The German brought him in at Liverpool from the Saints in 2016 and since then, he has been one of our most important players in every major title won by the club.

And it’s not like Mane is a recent success at LFC. He has scored 10 or more goals in every one of his 8 seasons in the Premier League- a record that many forwards would envy. His current contract at Liverpool expires in the summer of 2023.

Mane and Salah contracts a priority for LFC?

The Reds, on that note, are seemingly open to extending his deal at the club. He has been a loyal servant to Liverpool since he joined us and at 30, still has a few years left at the very top.

A versatile forward, Mane can play anywhere along the frontline for us. The news of the Reds apparently wanting to offer a new deal to the ex-Metz star comes when Mo Salah is already at an impasse with the Reds regarding his own contract.

The 30-year-old Egyptian, who has dazzled the PL alongside Mane on opposite flanks since joining from AS Roma, is yet to renew his deal at the club. He is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2023 as well if he fails to put pen to paper on a new Liverpool deal.

Salah and Mane are two players Klopp has built this Liverpool team’s success on. It would almost be disrespectful if we let them leave in a year’s time without. Not to mention, they continue to be two of the league’s most feared wingers.

Even though the club has signed a goal-getter in Diogo Jota and an electric winger in Luis Diaz, both Salah and Mane remain an important part of the LFC team fighting for the quadruple this season- and will continue to be important for us beyond this summer too.

And considering that, we would be wise to keep them both at the club. But of course, that should not mean paying exorbitant wages because, at the end of the day, both of them will be in their 30s once the new PL season begins and cannot keep playing at this level forever.
