“Winning machine”- Manchester City superstar urged to join Liverpool for a new challenge

Stan Collymore urges Kevin de Bruyne to leave Manchester City and join Liverpool

According to the Daily Mirror, former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has suggested Kevin de Bruyne should leave Manchester City for a team that gets the best out of him, with Anfield being one of the potential destinations.

de Bruyne is used to winning domestic titles at the Etihad but there always seems to be a lingering disappointment throughout their season once they get knocked out of Europe. Despite their wealth in the past decade and a half, they only have one UEFA Champions League final to show for it.

This season, as well, they are in the race to win the Premier League title. But the loss against Real Madrid has had a big impact on their campaign, with the Cityzens crashing out 6-5 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.

Regardless of the result against Newcastle United tonight, Raheem Sterling’s subdued celebrations despite him putting his team three points ahead of the Reds at that moment spoke a lot. And for Collymore, maybe it is time for the Belgium international to move elsewhere in search of European glory.

“After City’s Champions League exit, I’m sure De Bruyne will have been looking around thinking, ‘Are other people as good as I am? Will they help get me to where I need to be? Do I need to go to a club which is a routine winning machine?”

KDB to LFC?

Collymore, who played for the Reds between 1995 and 1997, suggests that a club like Liverpool is the next step for him if wants a team that can really get the best out of him and utilise his potential.

“His effectiveness in the biggest one-off games for club and country is actually very poor and maybe it’s time for him to go to a Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich, a club, or more importantly organisation, that has that winning mentality which gets the best out of him”

However, Collymore did agree that it would be hard for Liverpool to afford his wages. Apparently, the ex-Chelsea star earns £400,000-a-week at the Etihad, which is a humongous salary to dish out every week to one man.

de Bruyne could well be the piece that this Liverpool team needs to become virtually unbeatable. His passing and crossing abilities are there for everyone to see and it is truly a delicious prospect if he plays alongside another elite creator in Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But given the rivalry between the two teams in recent years, de Bruyne’s apparent wages, and the fact that City are still well placed to win the biggest titles, this looks like a dream that Liverpool fans may not ever see becoming real.

Nevertheless, with a player like Thiago Alcantara amongst our ranks already, there isn’t much that we are missing out on when it comes to quality in the centre of the park.
