Ancelotti reveals why Real Madrid would want ‘revenge’ against Liverpool

Carlo Ancelotti reveals Real Madrid want revenge against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final

Carlo Ancelotti has now responded to Mohamed Salah’s comments that Liverpool want ‘revenge’ against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.

The Egyptian superstar has made his thoughts known that the Reds would be out to avenge the 2018 UCL final loss later this weekend. Salah was injured in that game as Los Blancos won 3-1 on the night.

Speaking on Tuesday, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, the Italian boss suggested Madrid could also be out for revenge given Liverpool’s European Cup final win against the Spaniards back in 1981.

“It could be motivation, but Madrid also lost a final against Liverpool in Paris [1981]. It could be revenge for us too.”

Carlo Ancelotti replies to Mohamed Salah’s ‘revenge’ claims.

The Reds won that final which coincidentally took place in Paris, with an Alan Kennedy goal in the 82nd minute enough to hand the Reds their third European Cup at the time. Both teams have met a few times in Europe since then.

Revenge on the cards

Los Galacticos have had the upper hand against us ever since our 5-0 aggregate win over them back in the 2008/09 season. But Jurgen Klopp and his side know very well what to do this time around- with the Reds now a changed team.

If a Liverpool forward was to go off prematurely in the final this weekend, Klopp would have two world-class options to bring off the bench. Luis Diaz, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Diogo Jota form a fearsome five for the Merseysiders in the attack.

This is perhaps better than bringing on Adam Lallana for Salah. The Englishman was a world-beater on his day but asking a creative midfielder to take up the ex-AS Roma’s goal-scoring and running burden down the wings was always going to be a big ask.

Revenge or not, Madrid come into every final with the same ruthlessness. They have an imperious record in European finals and Klopp has to make sure he gets the better of his Italian counterpart in a tactical sense on 28th May.
