According to Liverpool Echo, Fabinho and Joe Gomez have been spotted in Liverpool training ahead of the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid on 28th May.
The two have apparently trained with the rest of the Liverpool squad today. This comes as a major boost because while Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are in line to feature in the UCL final, there have been doubts surrounding Fabinho and Gomez’s fitness.
Gomez was subbed off prematurely in the 1-0 win against Southampton. He went off just before the half-time whistle against the Villans as LFC played the closing stages of that half with 10 men before bringing on Jordan Henderson in the second half.
Fabinho Tavares, just a few days before Gomez’s injury, was subbed off in the 2-1 win against Aston Villa when he pulled up short while attempting to chase the ball. van Dijk and Salah were also on the bench in our most recent win against Wolves.
But Gomez and Fabinho were left out completely. And this is why their return to training comes as a big boost for the Reds. The former AS Monaco star is our undisputed defensive midfielder in the starting XI.
The Englishman, meanwhile, may not be a starter. But his inclusion on the bench gives Klopp a superb versatile option to bring on during games. He is a centre-back but has played as a left-back as well as a right-back during his time at Anfield.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, of course, is our trusted starter down the right-hand side of the defence. Andrew Robertson, meanwhile, replicates a similar role on the opposite flank, with the two shouldering much of our creative burden down the sides.
Another player that Liverpool have been sweating over with regards to their availability is Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard had to be subbed off in our 3-1 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers and is now in a race against time
