Real Madrid star speaks out on Liverpool fans being mistreated at UCL final

Real Madrid Thibaut Courtois speaks out on Liverpool fans being mistreated at UCL final

The UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool at Parc des Princes was delayed by a hefty amount yesterday due to some Reds fans not being able to get into the stadium.

It is widely believed that the French police in charge of controlling the crowd used tear gas and pepper spray. Journalist Dominic King of the Daily Mail says the usage of the spray was without reason.

While world-renowned football commentator Jim Beglin spoke of how thugs were attempting to loot fans who were leaving the stadium after full-time, with no police in sight whatsoever.

UEFA has been widely criticised for its organisation, or the lack of it, for the event. There is absolutely no reason for fans to be treated like this in civil society, even if UEFA try to spin the narrative later on.

This final will go down as a stain on this great tournament, not because of the football that was played, but because of the way it was organised. The final was moved to Saint-Denis from St Petersburg after Russia started a war with Ukraine

.

And now, Thibaut Courtois, who was the star of the night for Los Blancos

, has given his two cents on the matter on Twitter. It is a good gesture by the Belgian superstar as support from the opposition in matters such as this carries an important weight.

Liverpool fans aren’t claiming to be victims here without reason. A big event at a world-class stadium was not organised properly and those responsible for it from the management point of view should be held accountable.

The Reds lost the final 1-0 with Courtois putting in a world-class performance between the sticks. But after the final, rather than overwhelming sadness, there is also a sense of relief that despite our fans being mistreated, there was no mishap where people lost lives.
