Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell, speaking to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo) believes that both Liverpool and Mohamed Salah will reach a ‘compromise’ for the latter’s contract extension.
Salah has 12 months remaining in his current deal and has been in talks with Liverpool about an extension. The Liverpool forward enjoyed one of his best seasons at Anfield during the 2021/22 campaign.
He grabbed 31 goals and 16 assists in 51 games for Liverpool in all competitions, helping them win the Carabao Cup and The FA Cup. This was enough to help him win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award for the second time.
However, his future at Anfield is in doubt as his current deal expires in 2023. Salah had confirmed that he will stay at Liverpool next season, though his future is still unclear.
Now Sky Sports pundit Campbell, while talking to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), has said that he believes both Liverpool and Salah will strike a deal. The Everton and Arsenal icon believes that both parties have something to gain from the former AS Roma man extending his deal.
“I don’t think it will be a matter of bowing to his demands. Both parties have to come to a compromise. They need to conclude on a deal that works for everyone. I don’t see it being a problem. I truly believe they will come to an agreement”.
It is no doubt that Salah has proved himself to be one of the best forwards in the game. He has every available trophy to him at Anfield.
Although he has committed himself to the Reds for another season, his future is still uncertain. If he does not sign an extension, he will be able to leave Liverpool as a free agent next summer. And that’s a situation Liverpool would want to avoid.
Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane’s contracts are also set to expire in 2023, with the latter close to joining Bayern Munich. Although they have signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica and Diogo Jota has a long-term deal in place having joined in 2020, Liverpool would love to tie down their talisman.
What happens now is yet to be seen. Liverpool fans would love the news that their beloved player is staying with them for a long time, but only time will tell if he does so or not.
Campbell’s comments also make sense to a big extent. Salah would understand that at LFC, he has cemented himself as one of the legends of the club and Jurgen Klopp plays a system that has suited the Egyptian in the past.
Mane wanted to leave this summer and could get his desired move. Salah, on the other hand, hasn’t yet made such an approach that threatens LFC to an extent where they expect him to leave,
