Liverpool attacking midfielder James Balagizi has signed a new contract at the club and completed a loan transfer to Crawley Town, the club has confirmed on their official website.
Balagizi will be playing for the Reds for the 2022/23 campaign- not Liverpool, but Crawley Town, who share the same nickname as Liverpool. The 18-year-old is a highly versatile player.
He can play anywhere in midfield as well as on the flanks. Balagizi has been a regular feature for our U18 and U23 teams but hasn’t made a single senior appearance so far.
He was named on the bench twice for Jurgen Klopp’s team last season. Crawley Town will be competing in League Two, with Kevin Betsy in charge.
Hopefully, he gets some experience there in West Sussex and returns a more mature, complete player. Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones would be an example to follow for the young Englishman.
Both Jones and Elliott have been trusted by our German manager at various times over the past two seasons. If Balagizi makes a big impression at Crawley, perhaps he can make his senior debut for us very soon.
He is currently representing England U19 on the national level and clearly has a bright future ahead of him if he keeps developing on this curve.
Crawley Town’s expectations would be modest for the new season. They finished 12th out of 24 teams last season, just like they did in the campaign before that.
It’s also good that he has signed a new deal and committed his future to the Reds so that we don’t lose him on a free anytime soon. Hopefully, he is a player that makes headlines for us in the future.
