Transfer News: Nottingham Forest make excessive bid for Liverpool defender Neco Williams

If Nottingham Forest’s latest bid for Neco Williams is anything to go by, they are desperate to land the Liverpool right-back.

According to the Daily Mail, the Tricky Trees have submitted a new £16million offer for the Welshman. The Reds value their 21-year-old defender at £15million, which means Forest’s bid is apparently over the asking price.

It remains to be seen what the make-up of the offer is, but it certainly seems like a figure that can get the job done- granted the Reds still want to let Neco leave for the aforementioned amount.

Perhaps the competition for his services would have added a bit of insecurity in Forest’s boardroom. Fulham, PSV Eindhoven, and Southampton are all apparently interested in the Liverpool defender.

Time to go?

It remains to be seen what comes of this offer but fans would not be averse to seeing the youngster leave- or at least they would not be worried by that prospect. He has failed to displace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

That can’t be held against him, given TAA’s talent, but whenever he was played, Williams seemed like his overall game, especially on the defensive side of things, could use improvement.

The Reds have already signed teenage Scottish defender Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen this summer, who could be Trent’s understudy. Joe Gomez can and has played down that flank in our defence as well.

That makes Neco’s life even more difficult. It is perhaps best for all parties if he seals a move away from Anfield. Not only will added gametime help him become a regular in Rob Page’s Wales side, but Liverpool would also not be averse to an influx of money.
