Liverpool sent scouts to Germany to watch Hamburg centre-back Mario Vuskovic

Liverpool had scouts present to watch Hamburg centre-back Mario Vuskovic play in the second division of German football, according to Bild (h/t Mirror).

The 20-year-old has attracted interest within the Premier League from Wolves as well. The Croatian is a highly-rated prospect in Croatia.

Vuskovic signed for Die Rothosen last season on a two-season-long loan deal from Hajduk Split in his home country. Hamburg just missed out on promotion last season, losing the playoffs.

The Croatian has been impressive in Germany. The 20-year-old started the first game of the new season in the 2. Bundesliga where the Reds had an eye on him.

Liverpool have been blessed with a strong defence over the years. With Alisson in goal and Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip covering up the threats, the Reds boasted one of the best defensive records in the Premier League in the previous campaign.

Ibrahima Konate signing for the club has brought more strength and depth to the side. The Frenchman played a key part in the Merseysiders’ run to the final of the Champions League.

Previously, injuries to one of our main centre-backs caused a drop in performance as witnessed a couple of years back. Konate’s addition has ensured we have extra quality on the bench during unprecedented situations.

Joe Gomez has decided to extend his stay at Liverpool. The 25-year-old finally got a break from his injuries last season. The hero of the 2020/21 season, Nat Phillips, is also still at the club, although his future is uncertain.

Vuskovic is still young and developing his trade. While the 20-year-old is nowhere near the likes of Van Dijk and Matip, he could be a future star to keep an eye on.
