“I’m here”- Liverpool superstar gives welcome update on his future amidst Serie A links

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino talks about his future amid Juventus links

As the summer transfer window enters the final month, Roberto Firmino‘s transfer speculations rage on. The Liverpool striker has been linked with a move to Juventus, but the forward has made it clear that he plans to stay at Anfield this summer.

Since joining Liverpool in 2015, Firmino has made 327 appearances and that has made him the second longest-serving player in the current squad. The prolific forward has scored 98 goals so far for the Reds.

The former Hoffenheim player would prefer to stay at the club that has given him the opportunity to win the Premier League, Champions League, and many prestigious titles since Jurgen Klopp took over the side.

The 30-year-old has just one year left on his present contract, and the Reds seemed to have already planned a life after him by signing Darwin Nunez from SL Benfica.

He would become a free agent next summer if his contract is not extended, but Firmino admits that he is not pressing for a transfer and would be happy to spend the upcoming season strengthening his relationship with the Reds.

Firmino boost for Liverpool

Speaking in an interview with TNT Sports (as stated by Liverpool Echo), the Brazilian striker said:

“I love this team, this city, and the fans. I’m here. I want to stay of course.”

Roberto Firmino was more than happy to talk about his future after winning the Community Shield title against Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp has said he wishes

to keep an experienced figure in his plans and that does not come as a surprise.

The 30-year-old gives the team a completely fresh perspective in terms of vision and creativity in the final third. He is known for dropping deep to receive the ball and helping the wingers move forward.

Firmino would still have a significant role to play at Anfield even though he would not always be in the starting lineup. We need depth in attack and his playing style is markedly different from Nunez, who is an out-and-out striker.

Thus, it is best for Klopp and co to retain every kind of weaponry in their arsenal. Challenging for the biggest trophies in different competitions will see us come up against defences with different types of locks.

Firmino has shown in the past that he possesses the key to unlock more than most of them.
