Julian Alvarez spoke to Mancity.com post his team’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the FA Community Shield. The Argentine scored the only goal for his team, albeit a minorly controversial one that turned out to be a mere consolation.
After Trent Alexander-Arnold’s put Liverpool ahead in the first half of the game, Alvarez drew Man City level with 20 minutes to go. Darwin Nunez eventually came off the bench to win a penalty and then found the back of the net to hand the Reds a 3-1 win.
Speaking after the game, Alvarez admitted that while he is happy to get off the mark, it matters for little as his side came out second best. Not that we are complaining.
Obviously, I’m very happy for scoring my first goal with City, but that stays aside as we wanted to win the trophy
The 22-year-old striker rightly put his team’s interests ahead of his own as Man City could not capitalise after he scored the equaliser. Despite being outplayed, Alvarez gave a fine account of himself on the night.
Alvarez’s arrival went a little under the radar given Pep Guardiola’s high-profile capture of Erling Haaland. It was the South American, however, who gave a proper account of himself.
Liverpool have shown in the last few years how good they are. They’re a great team with great players, so is Manchester City. So it was a good test to start the season.
