Transfer News: Promising Liverpool starlet completes loan switch to Championship side

Liverpool starlet Tyler Morton joins Blackburn Rovers on loan

As confirmed by the club’s official website, 19-year-old Liverpool Academy graduate Tyler Morton has joined Championship side Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan.

The holding midfielder, who has captained Liverpool across different youth age groups, made his first-team competitive debut against Norwich City in an EFL Cup game in 2021, coming on as a substitute in the 60th minute.

Morton has nine appearances over the course of the season for the first team, six of them coming as a starter. This includes the famous 2-1 win over AC Milan at the San Siro.

Morton is the third Liverpool player to leave the club on loan this summer. He joins the likes of Rhys Williams and Conor Bradley who have secured loan deals to Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers respectively.

Morton will hope to emulate Harvey Elliot, who enjoyed a rather successful loan spell at Blackburn Rovers with 18 G/A from 42 games in the 2020-21 season. Hopefully, the 19-year-old follows in his Liverpool teammate’s shoes.

Morton also boasts of Champions League appearances in his kitty, after playing a full 90 mins against FC Porto in November among others. This will hold him in good stead in what should be a competitive atmosphere in the English second tier.

Morton’s addition helps Blackburn in their pursuit to sign a central midfielder, as the Rovers’ Director of Football, Gregg Broughton is very happy with the signing of Morton and believes the youngster is worth the wait.

“He has been so close to Liverpool’s first team for the whole of pre-season, but after seeing what he did in some big games for Liverpool last year, we believe he was worth waiting for.”

As Blackburn looks to secure promotion to the Premier League next season, Morton can potentially make a real name for himself. The Ewood Park outfit kicked off their 2022/23 campaign with a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

After showing promise for Liverpool last season, Morton now has the opportunity to gain regular first-team minutes, albeit in the second division. Hopefully, he will return to Kirkby a better player.
