Reports from The Daily Mail (h/t The Athletic) are expressing that Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is set to miss the clash against Fulham on Saturday following a calf injury last weekend.
The 21 year old Englishman was an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season squad this year and was tipped to get more minutes under the tank this season.
Jones featured against Manchester City in the FA Community Shield win for a few minutes towards the end of the game. While his development had somewhat stalled, Liverpool’s inability to land a new midfielder could have helped his cause next season.
However, Jones too has suffered an injury that is set to land a blow on him ahead of the Fulham clash. He was deemed unfit to play against Strasbourg on Saturday because of the same injury and will spend a little more time on the sidelines.
It is also said the club is now awaiting specialised opinion on Jones’ injury and assess further. This can set him back by two to four weeks.
One more to Liverpool’s already long list of injured players including the likes of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Diogo Jota. Jones featured 27 times for Klopp’s team last season, scoring one goal and getting four assists.
With effectively, negligible depth in the midfield for Jurgen Klopp and testing times with injury, Liverpool should look to sign a midfielder to balance the act out.
Given it is a game against newly promoted opposition, Liverpool necessarily do not need to field their strongest XI, but as the season progresses, the lack of depth in midfield could be tough to manage for Liverpool’s German manager.
