Marcelo Brozovic has emerged as a star at Inter Milan.
According to CalcioMercatoWeb (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are looking to include either Roberto Firmino or Naby Keita in a swap deal to secure the services of Inter Milan’s Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
Liverpool’s injury situation in midfield makes it essential for us to sign a midfielder, like Brozovic. The 29 year old has 28 goals and 37 assists in 289 appearances for Inter across all competitions.
He has become one of Serie A’s most reliable midfielders. It is easy to see why the Reds would be linked to him, given Jurgen Klopp’s penchant to work with hard-working midfielders.
Even though he has played most of his career as a number six, he can put in an equally good shift in central midfield as well. His deep-lying playmaking abilities is something Liverpool can benefit from, considering it is our front three creating most of our chances.
His current contract only runs out in 2026, after he signed a contract extension earlier this year in March. That gives a lot of control in I Nerazzurri‘s hands with regards to the future of the Croatian.
Speaking of Liverpool, with no fit midfielders bar Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Harvey Elliot and James Milner, signing any midfielder and one as capable as Brozovic should be a must.
With Tyler Morton and Leighton Clarkson out on loan, there is virtually no depth in the midfield which is absolutely essential when we will be competing for all four trophies just like we did last season.
After a shaky start to the season, drawing it out 2-2 at Fulham, the game made it obvious that Liverpool certainly do not have the strongest midfield depth, which made the transfer rumours even louder.
As for Firmino and Keita, it would then defeat the purpose of signing Brozovic. What good is signing a player for depth if you let a senior player leave in return? The Brazilian striker is important as a backup while Keita, when fit, is capable of starting for most teams in the world.
