“Long impact”- Liverpool veteran backs summer signing to build a legacy at Anfield

James Milner backs Darwin Nunez to build himself a legacy at Liverpool

Darwin Nunez completed his move from SL Benfica to Liverpool in a club record fee worth up to £85m

in June earlier this year. Reds’ vice-captain James Milner believes that the Uruguayan can have a lasting impact at the club.

Nunez was quick to start life in Liverpool colours, as he scored a goal against Manchester City in the 3-1 victory to win the FA Community Shield. He also had a wonderful Premier League debut, scoring and assisting against Fulham in a 2-2 draw.

Darwin is one of three senior incomings this summer, alongside Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsey. Given the fortune we paid for him, it is fair to say that the striker will be subjected to a higher standard of results.

Darwin Nunez moved to Liverpool from Benfica.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Milner had no doubts about his teammate’s skills and said the striker particularly impressed him in training. He also spoke about the Uruguayan being a clinical finisher.

“I think he’ll have an impact the whole time he’s here, to be honest.”

Bringing a different perspective to the rest of the attack, Darwin is a natural striker. Roberto Firmino is a False 9 who tends to drop in between defenders at times whereas Diogo Jota, is also not a natural striker, but someone who can drift wide from the centre.

Further speaking about the necessity of having forwards who are different to each other, Milner said it was important to try everything possible. Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, have rarely deployed an out-and-out number nine.

With the marquee arrival of one of Europe’s hottest talents, Klopp might be trying out a new style of play. The signing of a proper striker may be due to the signing of Erling Haaland by rivals Manchester City.

More Liverpool News:

With Darwin off to a flying start, we Kopites would hope for the same to continue for a long duration. Milner will hopefully be proved prophetic in the future.
