According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), former Liverpool Sporting Director Michael Edwards has rejected an offer from Chelsea to join them this summer.

The transfer guru joined the Liverpool backroom staff in 2011 and played an instrumental part in constructing the Champions League and Premier League winning squad alongside Jurgen Klopp and Tom Werner. His impact on the club’s recruitment still lives on to this day.

He left his position as a Sporting Director at Anfield in November 2021, with Julian Ward taking the reins. Having spent more than a decade aiding the Reds’ rebuild,

Chelsea are keen to rope in former Liverpool Sporting Director Michael Edwards.

Edwards initially joined the Merseyside outfit as the Head of Performance and Analysis in 2011, before taking reins as a technical director of the club. It has proven to be an inspired decision.

He was responsible for bringing in high-quality, low-budget signings in Mohammad Salah, Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane, amongst others. These players not only helped the Reds land their sixth European crown but also bring home that long elusive 19th League Championship.

Edwards, along with Jurgen Klopp, is highly responsible for bringing the good fortunes back to Anfield. It is no surprise that now he is on the market, many top clubs will be fighting for his signature.

Premier League rivals Chelsea have been the first club to officially register their interest for Edwards. New Bluesowner Todd Boehly is keen to replace former sporting director Marina Granovskaia with the ex-Liverpool man.

However, it will come as a big relief to the Reds faithful that Edwards is not keen on moving to Stamford Bridge. Everyone at Liverpool is aware of his abilities and what he can bring to a team. Losing him to a direct rival is something that could bite us.
