Liverpool star Fabinho outlines Reds’ youngster’s performances

Fabinho speaks about Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott’s display against Crystal Palace

Fabinho spoke to LFCTV GO and had positive things to say about Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott’s performance against Crystal Palace in a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

The 19 year old started the game replacing the injured Thiago Alcantara from the line-up against Fulham. James Milner and Elliott started in front of Fabinho.

In a pretty-much lacklustre performance for the club, Elliott was one of the bright sparks for Liverpool alongside Luis Diaz who scored the equaliser. Fabinho believed that Elliott played “really well” on the night.

Very recently, the midfielder signed a contract extension with the club, running to the summer of 2027. Fabio Carvalho replaced him in the closing stages of the game against Crystal Palace. Until then, his performance was lauded by Fabinho.

“I think Harv played really well in the last game. Harvey is a little bit more offensive so it’s important to have a player like this with Harvey’s quality.”

His link-up ability was also on show in the last game, where he played numerous one-touch passes in the right flank, with Trent Alexander Arnold and Mohamed Salah. On one instant, Elliot almost curved a shot into the top left corner, but it was just wide off.

“We know that he will be between the lines, he can link up on that right side with Trent and Mo so it is really important for us that he is in good shape, that he is confident.”

Harvey has been promising for a long time. He had a breakthrough season at Blackburn Rovers on loan in the 2020 season. He carried the form into Liverpool, performing exceedingly well in the initial part of the season.

An ankle fracture in September 2021 saw him sit out for five months. He scored on his return to the first-team in the FA Cup. The Brazilian also talked about how was impressed with the youngster’s contribution in offence and defence. He believes Liverpool “need” a player with his skillset.

“He was important in the offensive actions but he is someone who works really hard so he will help in the defensive part as well. So we are happy for him and hopefully he will get better because we need a player like this.”
