“We were unlucky” – Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool should have won against Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool should have defeated Manchester United

Speaking in the post-match interview with Sky Sports as quoted by Express

, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp thinks that the Reds were ‘unlucky’ to not win against Manchester United.

Liverpool went into the game hoping to get their first three points of the season by beating a struggling Manchester United but that’s not how the script went. The Red Devils managed to outsmart Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Man United won 2-1 against Liverpool thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. Liverpool did score a late goal through Mohamed Salah but were unable to push on and find an equaliser.

The Red Devils started the game off in tremendous fashion. They put pressure on Liverpool and were on the front foot in the early exchanges. Anthony Elanga even hit the post very early in the game.

Man United got rewarded for their persistence though with Jadon Sancho slotting home a goal very clinically to give Erik ten Hag’s men the lead. The Red Devils doubled their advantage around ten minutes after halftime.

Liverpool did try to get back into the game and also managed to assert themselves a little bit more as the game went on. They kept pushing and pushing but all they could get was a late consolation goal.

Klopp will want Liverpool to get their first win soon

Speaking about the match, Klopp believes that Liverpool should have won the game and that they were unlucky

“They were really aggressive in the beginning, it was clear what will happen. They were more aggressive than us and they hit the post early on. They scored the goal and we took over and played the game we wanted to play. We were unlucky with situations against an opponent like United, it would have been helpful to score and go 1-1 at halftime.”

Klopp may feel Liverpool are unlucky to not win yesterday but the truth is they were far from their best yesterday. Liverpool have not really settled into the new season yet, and will have to get back to speed soon.
